About Us
Green Power (GPower) is a small Kenyan registered non-for profit organization started by engineers Nyaga Ndiga from Kenya and Robert Mutsaers from the Netherlands.
Our Mission: Community Driven Renewable Energy
The prime goal of our renewable energy initiative is to create lasting social change in rural Africa through decentralized micro hydro energy mini-grid systems that are largely financed, constructed, operated, and owned by co-venturing communities. The rural poor can use this electricity in homes, create new businesses, and finance enterprise developments via revenue generation. Ownership will also provide access to formal credit markets.
Our Mission: Expanding High Tech African Manufacturing
We also wish to expand African manufacturing capacity through knowledge transfers. We construct the turbines in Kenya, with Kenyan engineers. In 2005, using proven technologies, we successfully tested our prototype 100Kwatt turbine.
Our Short-Term Goal: Finalizing a Model Project
Our immediate target is the completion of a 300Kwatt model project with one of our rural communities on Mt Kenya that will provide electricity to its 2000 registered members. The community has completed the prime structures (dam, power house etc.) and we are currently finalizing the first of three 100Kwatt turbines. We expect to be ready to build the distribution network in May 2007 and are actively seeking financial support.
